structures/skylines

i thought of more than just draw-sketching these parking structures, but architectualizing them, surveying them, measuring them with eyes and minds and bodies -(oh what a place it would be to skate and cruise on under that big city sky, on the smooth rooftop!)- to essentially conceptualize the thrill inspired by these massive concrete and metal structures, flesh and glass skylines..

Children in the Stairwell

This is just a preview of the mural inside one of the stairwells of the Church St. Parking Deck near the downtown public library. Check it out if you get the chance, and more images will be on the way after another excursion in that direction.

Parking Decks Project Feat. THE FLAMING LIPS

parking lot experiments! -These were the precursor to the Boombox Experiments and the band's beautiful album Zaireeka, which features 4 discs meant to be listened to simultaneously on 4 different players. Eureka!

About The PARKING DECKS Project

The PARKING DECKS Project is about exploring those awesome structures commonly know as parking decks, through creative mediums such as art, writing and poetry, music, video, and photography. It's also about having a good time. Most people think of parking decks as gaudy constructions built only for the purpose of storing our beloved automobiles while we move our bodies elsewhere. However, many of us see parking decks as architectural fascinations open for exploration and spontaneous experience, fun with sunset-watching, bike-riding, music-blasting, and fear-facing. The PARKING DECKS Project is all about capturing those life moments and exhibiting them.

So here's how it works:

YOU submit your creative work to parkingdecksblog@yahoo.com
and
WE post it here so that others can enjoy your PARKING DECK experiences.

With each submission please include your name, the medium you worked with, any necessary attachments, and any text or links that you might want to be included in your post. Submissions don't always have to be OF or ABOUT parking decks but simply INSPIRED by them. This includes snapshots of you just having a good experience, rocking out on the rooftop of the world.

Basically, it's all good.

So go use gridded graph paper, frosted vellum, sulphite sketch-books, krylon spray-paint, cruisin’ skate-decks, gummy wheels, plastic rock helmets, quick stickers, novel novellas, poignant poems, perfect protractors, unreliable altimeters, 35mm lenses, slow-shutter pinholes, tricky tripods, cumbersome easels, wide canvases, beautiful sunsets, big blue skies, grateful rain clouds, spanish guitars, french sodas, fresh fries, old chevy pickup trucks, sultry saxophones, hotter than heck headlamps, loving kisses, warm blankets, brotherly high-fives- whatever in the world you can get your little hands on! and impulsively investigate and explore what parking decks can do for you! and mostly, have fun!

Send any questions or comments to parkingdecksblog@yahoo.com

ALSO: The PARKING DECKS Project does not advocate illegal activity, but we do support having a FANTASTIC TIME.

love, JM!
